FAQs

What is a County Commissioner?

The Mecklenburg Board of County Commissioners is the governing body of Mecklenburg County. The Board consists of nine commissioners – six representing districts and three elected at-large – who are elected in November of even-numbered years.

Commissioners are in charge of adopting the annual County budget, setting the County property tax, and assessing and establishing priorities on the many community needs, especially those related to health, education, welfare, mental health, and the environment.

When is the election?

The primary will be held on March 3rd, with early voting starting on February 12th. You can find voter registration information at https://www.ncsbe.gov/voting.

What is THE INFLATION REDUCTION ACT?

The Inflation Reduction Act (IRA) is the largest climate funding bill in American history, providing nearly $400 billion for clean energy and climate protections nationwide. Millions of dollars have already been distributed to North Carolina, meaning homeowners, renters, business owners, and local governments have the ability to apply for these funds to save energy, reduce utility bills, and build more resilient, sustainable neighborhoods. Mecklenburg County should not only be regularly applying for these funds but also educating residents on how they can access funds to reduce their cost of living.
